Ottawa, Ontario – The Ottawa REDBLACKS achieved a remarkable victory on a night dedicated to recognizing their All-Decade team, defeating the BC Lions 34-27, while also contending with the emotional fallout from an injury to receiver Jaelon Acklin.

The REDBLACKS, currently holding a record of 7-2-1, extended their unbeaten streak to six games following a compelling performance at TD Place. Quarterback Dru Brown stepped up, showcasing creative offensive strategies that helped the team secure the win.

The game took an alarming turn when Acklin suffered a serious injury while attempting to catch a pass. Following the incident, he was transported to a hospital, though the team later reported he was conscious and had movement in all extremities, providing some reassurance to fans and teammates alike.

Reflecting on the challenging circumstances, head coach Bob Dyce emphasized the strong familial bond within the team. “It’s an emotional time. I know how those guys love Ack,” he stated, underscoring the commitment to support one another during difficult moments.

Despite facing adversity, the REDBLACKS capitalized on their offensive opportunities. Rookie receiver Nick Mardner, who was drafted second overall in the recent CFL Draft, scored his first two professional touchdowns during this game, contributing significantly to the team’s success.

The Lions struggled in their fifth consecutive defeat, having taken an early lead through a touchdown from David Mackie. This set the stage for the REDBLACKS’ comeback, which ultimately secured the hard-fought victory.
