Reds Call Up Randy Wynne, Place Carson Spiers on Injured List

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Reds announced this morning that they have selected the contract of right-hander Randy Wynne from Triple-A Louisville, filling the roster spot vacated by Carson Spiers, who has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder impingement.
Spiers’ recent performance included four runs allowed on five hits across four innings in Saturday’s game, prompting concerns about his reliability moving forward. “He was out of gas, and I knew it, and DJ knew it. There wasn’t really anything we could do about it,” Reds manager Tito Francona stated.
Wynne, 32, initially joined the Reds in 2019 after being signed from the independent Frontier League. He has worked his way through the organization and made a brief appearance in the majors in 2023, giving up one run over 2 1/3 innings. However, he has since resumed his role as a swingman at Triple-A, showcasing impressive numbers with a 4.16 ERA in 93 innings last season and posting a 3.06 ERA through his first four starts of the 2025 season.
With Spiers on the injured list, Wynne is expected to assume a similar long-relief role, especially as Brent Suter has been named the starter for today’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. Suter has performed reliably this season with a 2.70 ERA but has limited experience as a starter in recent years, having last logged significant time in 2018.
Wynne’s ability to stretch out as a starter means he could take over from Suter if needed. The Reds are set to face the Orioles in what could be a pivotal matchup as both teams are in search of a series win.
As the Reds adjust to their new roster configuration, fans will be watching closely to see how Wynne performs in his upcoming appearances. “It’ll be exciting to see what he can do now that he has another chance at the big league level,” added Francona.
