Reds Snap Long Scoreless Streak with Eager Battle Against Brewers

Milwaukee, WI – The Cincinnati Reds fought hard to recover from an MLB record scoreless streak, scoring runs for the first time in four games during a matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.
After being no-hit by Brewers pitcher Tyler Alexander for five innings, Elly De La Cruz made an audacious bunt attempt in the sixth inning, igniting controversy in the baseball community. Despite his efforts, Alexander held onto his no-hitter status until leaving the game in the sixth, having allowed no hits or runs.
The Reds finally broke the no-hit bid in the seventh inning when Gavin Lux singled to center field against Milwaukee reliever Abner Uribe. Cincinnati scored two runs in the eighth, marking an end to their 35-inning scoreless drought, the longest since the 1946 season when the team went 37 innings without a run.
The Reds’ struggle to score has been marked by a string of losses this season, falling to 2-6 after eight games. Cincinnati will aim to rebound today as they face the Brewers again in a rematch. Starting for the Reds will be Brady Singer, while the Brewers will send Elvin Rodriguez to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
“We can’t afford to let this streak of silence continue,” said Reds manager Tito Francona after Friday’s game. “We need to get the bats going and win this series.”
Brady Singer, who impressed in his Reds debut with a dominant performance—throwing seven shutout innings—had a strong 2024 at home in Kansas City, but faces a different challenge this year in Cincinnati. He will be crucial for helping the Reds clinch a much-needed victory today. Alex Rodriguez, who had a rough start against the Reds earlier, enters with a 9.00 ERA, posing an opportunity for the Reds’ offense to capitalize.
“We need everyone contributing at the plate, and we expect more from the lineup,” De La Cruz emphasized after his notable effort in the last game. “Today, it’s all about winning.”
As Cincinnati fans hold their breath for the team’s resurgence, they were encouraged this week by the return of Alexis Diaz, who made his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Louisville. In his outing, he did not allow any hits, striking out two batters, signaling a potential reinforcements for the Reds heading into the coming weeks.
Fans will be watching closely to see if the Reds can build on their newfound momentum and salvage a split in the four-game series against their division rivals.
