Revamped Structure for Supercars Championship Starting 2025
The Repco Supercars Championship is set to undergo a significant transformation beginning in 2025, with the introduction of a new Finals system. This revamped structure aims to enhance the competition by dividing the championship season into three distinct segments: the Sprint Cup, the Enduro Cup, and the Finals.
In 2025, the season will consist of a total of 34 races over 13 rounds, initiating with the Sprint Cup. This segment comprises the first eight rounds, featuring 25 races. Following the Sprint Cup, the Enduro Cup will include the events at Tailem Bend and Bathurst. The final segment will be the Finals, a high-stakes three-round sequence that decides the ultimate champion.
Post-Bathurst, the Finals will unfold over the last three rounds at prominent circuits: the Gold Coast, Sandown, and Adelaide. Only ten drivers, determined by their championship points from the regular season, will qualify for the Finals. The top contenders will include the winners of both the Sprint and Enduro Cups, who automatically qualify and receive a 25-point advantage entering the Finals.
The scoring system remains consistent with the previous season, allocating 300 points per round. Drivers can earn up to five bonus points for posting the fastest lap, provided they finish within the top 15. However, at the end of the regular season, only primary drivers affiliated with a Team Racing Charter (TRC) are eligible to compete in the Finals.
At the Finals’ commencement on the Gold Coast, all ten finalists will have their championship points reset to a baseline of 3000. Additional bonus points will be distributed based on the regular season standings. The winning and end position at Gold Coast will also affect eligibility, as the bottom three, unless victorious, face elimination.
Subsequent to Gold Coast, the semi-finals at Sandown will reset the contenders’ points to 4000. A similar elimination process ensues, reducing the finalists further. The top seven continue to the semi-finals where additional bonus points come into play, and victories can secure a spot in the final round.
Ultimately, the final showdown in Adelaide will feature four drivers whose scores will start at 5000 points plus Grand Final Bonus points. The results from this culminating round will conclusively determine the championship victor, crowning one driver based on the highest accumulated points.
