Rey Mysterio Hints at Retirement Announcement Plans

ORLANDO, Fla. — Rey Mysterio, the WWE Hall of Famer, expressed the desire to announce his retirement ahead of time during an interview for the show ‘Unlikely’ with Adrien Hernandez. Mysterio’s comments come as he prepares for a qualifying match at WWE Raw on February 10, 2025, where he will face Logan Paul.
Mysterio reflected on the emotional weight of retirement, mentioning how he wants to give fans a chance to say goodbye. ‘I would love to make an announcement,’ Mysterio said. ‘I would love for the fans who have grown up watching me and supported my career from day one… to say, ‘This is the last time I’m going to get to see him perform. I want to go take a look.’ I want to give the opportunity to those fans that have been loyal from day one.’
The legendary luchador acknowledged that the moment of retirement is drawing nearer. ‘I know that time is a lot closer than it was yesterday. I have to prep myself up mentally. I do that slowly,’ he said. He noted that seeing John Cena embark on his final year as an in-ring performer for WWE has influenced his perspective. ‘I’m kind of looking at him and trying to get that understanding of what it feels like,’ Mysterio added.
Mysterio, who recently turned 50, emphasized his struggles with the idea of retirement, saying, ‘Prior to that, I would think, ‘I’m just going to retire one day,’ but it’s a hard thing to do when you start thinking about it.’
As he contemplates his future beyond wrestling, Mysterio mentioned he has consistently committed himself to the sport. ‘For me, I’ve always loved and only done wrestling. Once I leave wrestling, I think about what I’m going to do next.’
At the recent Royal Rumble, Mysterio shared the ring with Cena, who is noted for his legendary career and is currently undertaking a retirement tour. The 2025 edition of the event signified the beginning of Cena’s farewell journey.
Following his match against Paul on tonight’s WWE Raw, Mysterio’s next steps will be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike as he navigates the challenges of this transitional phase in his storied career.
