Ricardo Pepi: PSV Striker Attracts Borussia Dortmund and Shines for USMNT
Ricardo Pepi, the 21-year-old striker for PSV Eindhoven, has been making significant waves in both club and international football. Recently, reports have emerged that Borussia Dortmund is interested in signing him, adding to the club’s already revamped striker lineup.
Pepi has had a notable season with PSV, scoring 7 goals and providing 1 assist in 15 appearances. His performance in the Eredivisie has caught the attention of not only Borussia Dortmund but also Bayern Munich. Despite Dortmund’s recent restructuring of their striker position, which saw the arrivals of Serhou Guirassy and Maximilian Beier, the club is considering adding another center-forward to their ranks. This move could be facilitated if Donyell Malen leaves the club this winter, potentially creating a void that could be filled by shifting Beier to a more permanent wide role.
In addition to his club success, Pepi has been a key player for the U.S. men’s national team (USMNT). He recently scored the only goal in the first leg of the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals against Jamaica, helping the USA secure a 1-0 lead. With several USMNT strikers out due to injuries, Pepi has a significant opportunity to solidify his position as a starter for the national team.
Pepi’s journey has not been without challenges. After joining Augsburg from FC Dallas in January 2022, he struggled and was subsequently allowed to leave six months later. However, he re-established himself at FC Groningen before moving to PSV, where he has consistently shown growth and potential for a move to a more competitive league.
