2024 Richmond Marathon Shatters All-Time Participation Record
The 2024 Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon, scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 16, has broken its all-time participation record. According to event organizers, the marathon will see nearly 21,000 runners across all three races, surpassing the previous record of 20,586 set in 2014.
The full marathon and half marathon have both reached their capacity, with 6,200 and 10,000 runners respectively. The full marathon is set to begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, and participants and spectators should be aware of several no-parking zones and street closures in effect. Towing will be enforced in some areas to ensure smooth operations.
In addition to the record-breaking participation, the event also features inspiring stories of perseverance. One notable example is David Griffin, who is returning to the Richmond Marathon after experiencing a cardiac arrest during the event last year. Griffin’s determination to finish what he started has captured the hearts of many, highlighting the resilience and spirit of the running community.
The city has also made special arrangements to accommodate the large number of participants, including the use of Main Street Station as a key location for the event.
