Ricky Castillo Thrives on PGA Tour with Brother as Caddie

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — Rookie golfer Ricky Castillo is making strides on the PGA Tour with his brother, Derek, as his caddie this season. The Castillo brothers previously teamed up during the US Junior Amateur in 2018, and now Derek’s familiarity with Ricky helps him navigate the tour.
Ricky, who qualified for the PGA Tour via the 2024 points list, praises his brother’s contributions. “It’s a huge help,” Ricky said. “He knows exactly how I like to play and every distance and what I’m good at.” The duo often plays together, giving Derek insight into Ricky’s game, which he believes enhances their performance.
Derek Castillo, born in 1998, is an accomplished player in his own right. He played for California State University, Fullerton, where he was named Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month in March 2020. After turning professional, he competed on the PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica, achieving a top finish of T41 at the 2022 Diners Club Peru Open.
The brotherly bond continues to play a vital role as Ricky navigates his rookie season, while Derek, who has also caddied on the LPGA Tour, remains involved in competitive golf. “It’s special to have him with me on this journey,” Ricky said, reflecting on their partnership. Even though Derek has not yet reached the PGA Tour, his support keeps him connected to the sport.
