Ricochet Responds to Nick Khan’s Controversial AEW Comments

STAMFORD, Conn. — Nick Khan, the WWE CEO, stirred controversy on April 16 during an appearance on a popular wrestling podcast. His remarks regarding talent from rival promotion AEW drew sharp reactions, particularly from wrestler Ricochet.
While discussing the competitive landscape of wrestling, Khan expressed his belief that numerous AEW performers would eventually join WWE when their contracts allow. “In terms of the other wrestling promotional company, they have a lot of talented wrestlers, and we’re happy about that. When contractually they are available to talk to and have conversations with, assume a number of them will come over,” Khan stated.
This comment raised eyebrows in the wrestling community, leading to backlash from some AEW athletes. Ricochet, who transitioned to AEW in 2024 after a lengthy tenure with WWE, took to Twitter to voice his annoyance, posting, “Oh man, these guys fucking suck,” accompanied by an eyeroll emoji.
Khan’s interview also included praise for Shad Khan, the father of AEW’s president, Tony Khan. However, his choice to omit mention of Tony by name and refer to Shad as “the father who finances it and owns the Jaguars” was perceived as a jab toward AEW’s leadership.
Ricochet’s digital response captures the growing tensions between the rival wrestling organizations, especially as WWE gears up for its WrestleMania 41 event weekend.
The backdrop of these comments highlights the ongoing dynamics within the wrestling industry, where talent movement and company rivalries create a vibrant, often contentious atmosphere.
Also in the wrestling world, AEW President Tony Khan discussed the potential of increasing the number of annual pay-per-view events. Since AEW’s formation in 2019, the company has grown from four to nine pay-per-view events each year. While Khan sees the possibility of expanding to ten in the future, he remains confident that nine is currently optimal.
Khan’s remarks were made in a recent interview where he confirmed that the upcoming AEW pay-per-view, Double or Nothing, is scheduled for May 25. This continuing expansion coincides with AEW’s success and popularity among wrestling fans, as the company seeks to maintain its momentum in a competitive market.
Bill Pritchard, Managing Editor of Wrestlezone.com, noted the significance of comments made by both Khan and Ricochet, stating that such exchanges not only interest fans but also do much to illustrate the landscape of professional wrestling.
