Rishabh Pant Test Century Chennai

After recovering from serious injuries sustained in a car accident in December 2022, Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant marked his return to Test cricket with a stunning performance. Playing against Bangladesh, Pant scored his sixth Test century, an achievement that highlights his affinity for the longer format of the game.

The match took place at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, where Pant, along with fellow batsman Shubman Gill, helped India set Bangladesh an improbable target of 515. India’s dominance in the match culminated in a 280-run victory, as Bangladesh was bowled out for 234 in their second innings.

“This 100 was special because I love playing in Chennai. After my injury, I wanted to play in all three formats, and this was my first Test since then. I hope to get better every day,” Pant expressed emotionally after the match. He played a valuable knock of 109 runs off 128 balls, which included 13 fours and four sixes, sharing a significant 167-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Gill, who remained unbeaten on 119.

Pant, reflecting on the partnership, said, “I don’t know what people say outside, but I try to read the situation in my own way. When you are 30-3, you need to stitch a partnership, and that’s what Gill and I did. Doing it with a guy who I have a great relationship with is special.”

Besides Pant and Gill’s contributions with the bat, senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin played a crucial role in India’s triumph. Ashwin took six wickets for 88 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with three wickets for 58 runs to seal the comprehensive victory. For Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto was the top scorer with 82 runs off 127 balls.
