Riyan Parag’s Journey from Struggles to Success in Cricket

Riyan Parag, the young cricketer who experienced a remarkable turnaround in his career, has shared insights into his journey from setbacks to success.

Parag, who hails from Assam, recently received a call-up to the Indian team for the T20I series in Zimbabwe, marking a significant achievement for the former Under-19 World Cup winner.

Reflecting on his transformation, Parag credited his determination and hard work following a series of underwhelming IPL seasons that left him doubting his abilities.

After a disappointing 2023 IPL, Parag committed to improving his game by immersing himself in training sessions at the Rajasthan Royals Academy in Talegaon, outside of Nagpur.

The intensive training regimen in challenging conditions fueled Parag’s newfound passion for the game, leading to a stellar domestic season where he excelled for Assam.

Transitioning from a finisher to batting at No. 4, Parag felt a renewed sense of confidence and responsibility, which he carried into the IPL, showcasing his mental strength and determination.

Parag acknowledged the support and mentorship he received from Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara, with whom he developed a close relationship built on open communication and guidance.

Despite the pressures and criticisms he faced, particularly through online trolling, Parag learned to block out negativity and focus on his game, channeling his energy towards self-improvement and resilience.

Outside of cricket, Parag revealed his passion for competitive gaming, achieving recognition in the Southeast Asia gaming community for his skills in Counter-Strike and PubG.

Looking ahead, Parag aspires to be a role model for aspiring cricketers from smaller regions like Assam, aiming to pave the way for others to dream big and pursue their goals in the sport.
