Robert Jones Signs One-Year Deal with Dallas Cowboys

ARLINGTON, Texas — Former Miami Dolphins offensive guard Robert Jones has signed a one-year contract worth up to $4.75 million with the Dallas Cowboys, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday night.
The 26-year-old Jones started all 17 games for Miami in the 2024 season at left guard but struggled in pass protection, giving up five sacks and accruing seven penalties. Although he was recognized for his run-blocking abilities, his overall performance contributed to the Dolphins’ offensive line woes in recent years.
Before his signing, there had been speculation that Dolphins general manager Chris Grier would seek to re-sign Jones for a backup position, but the Cowboys ultimately secured his services. Dallas is replacing future Hall of Fame guard Zack Martin, who announced his retirement earlier this month, with Jones as a key addition to the offensive line.
Jones is not related to 1990s Cowboys linebacker Robert Jones. After going undrafted in 2021 out of Middle Tennessee State University, he carved out a role in Miami, participating in 49 games and making 30 starts over four years.
Pro Football Focus (PFF) rated Jones 58th among guards last season, noting his inconsistent performances. As Jones approaches his fifth NFL season, he aims to solidify his standing in Dallas, potentially seeking a more lucrative deal in the future.
With Martin’s retirement creating a significant amount of dead cap space, estimated at around $26.5 million, the Cowboys now face a challenge in managing their salary cap while simultaneously revamping their line with more economical contracts.
This offseason, the Cowboys have already made strategic moves, including investing first- and third-round draft picks in offensive linemen. They hope that these young talents, along with the addition of Jones, will contribute to stabilizing the offensive front for the upcoming season.
