RoboScout Introduces Innovative Minor League Statcast Data Analysis

NEW YORK, NY — RoboScout has taken a new approach to analyzing minor league baseball prospects by incorporating Statcast data from all levels, rather than only from Triple-A and the Low-A Florida State League. This season marks the first time RoboScout has included minor league Statcast hitting data, allowing for more informed evaluations of player performance.
The Robo score reflects hitters’ basic statistics at each level without the inclusion of Statcast metrics. The RoboCast score, on the other hand, combines these metrics, revealing a player’s true potential based on advanced statistics like contact percentage and exit velocity. If a player has a higher RoboCast score than their Robo score, it indicates they may be underperforming despite positive underlying metrics.
Currently, some players have started to stand out, despite having fewer than 20 plate appearances, which renders rankings somewhat premature. Among them are prospects from the Cardinals and Guardians, who rank highly in Baseball America’s 2024 DSL rankings, both showing impressive wRC+ over 160. Brewers slugger has also made an impact, tallying two home runs and a stolen base this season.
Another notable player is an 18-year-old outfielder for the Pirates, displaying strong underlying hitting data and contributing noticeably in early plate appearances. Additionally, other featured prospects include a Guardians infielder with an eye-catching 252 wRC+ and an Astros shortstop hitting a remarkable 111 mph batted ball.
Although it’s early in the season for drawing broad conclusions regarding Complex League pitchers, some have already caught RoboScout’s attention. Specifically, a 19-year-old Nationals pitcher has demonstrated a strong 46% strikeout-minus-walk rate, while another 18-year-old from the Pirates shows promise with a 54% rate. His four-seam fastball is projected to increase in velocity as he develops.
In Low-A baseball, the top hitters include a Brewers infielder with a remarkable maximum exit velocity of 109 mph, asserting himself as a leading prospect. Others, like a D-backs first-rounder, rank highly despite some concerns about swing decisions.
As players progress through the ranks, different prospects are showing promise, with Mets players receiving promotions based on their strong Statcast-supported performances. RoboScout’s analysis of hitters and pitchers continues to gain momentum, emphasizing the importance of data in player development.
The Triple-A landscape reveals a competitive field, with multiple hitters producing impressive statistics. RoboScout has noted standout performances, suggesting that some of these players may soon be called up to the major leagues, enhancing the excitement around their futures.
