Rockets Aim to End 9-Game Losing Streak Against Heat

MIAMI, Fla. — The Houston Rockets will look to extend their eight-game winning streak tonight as they face the Miami Heat, who are struggling with a nine-game losing streak. This matchup takes place tonight at 8 p.m. ET at the Kaseya Center.
For the first time since 2019, the Rockets sit 20 games above .500. However, they face a daunting challenge in the Heat, who have defeated the Rockets in their last nine meetings. In fact, for the Rockets, this is akin to an 18-game losing streak because the teams are in different conferences.
Houston is coming off a successful stretch and is eager to break their South Beach curse. The Rockets defeated the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this season, ending a previously held 15-game losing streak and showcasing their ability to overcome past hurdles.
The return of forward Amen Thompson, following a two-game suspension for fighting in the last game between these two teams, could be pivotal. Coach Ime Udoka noted that the Rockets perform significantly better defensively when Thompson is on the floor. “Having Amen back gives us an edge defensively, and we’ll look to leverage that against the Heat,” Udoka said.
On the opposing side, the Heat are hoping to recover from their slump with the expected return of Andrew Wiggins, who has been cleared to play after dealing with a leg contusion and an ankle impingement. Coach Erik Spoelstra remarked, “We’ll be mindful of his minutes as we try to break these two tough streaks tonight.” Wiggins was averaging 19.3 points before his injury.
Miami currently sits in tenth place in the Eastern Conference and is desperate to reverse their fortunes. Guard Tyler Herro acknowledged the challenges faced during the losing streak, stating, “It’s a tough stretch and self-doubt creeps in, but we have to rely on our work and trust the process.”
The two teams will face off for the second and final time this regular season. The Heat won their initial encounter, 104-100, back in December, and they hope to maintain their home dominance against Houston, leading their all-time series 42-33.

As the game approaches, both rosters continue to adjust with last-minute injury updates. The Rockets have listed Thompson as probable due to ankle concerns, while Wiggins is set to make his return after a crucial absence.
