Kevin Durant Houston Rockets Trade Rumors

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Rockets have been floated as a potential landing spot for Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant in a recent trade proposal by The Ringer, sparking debate among NBA analysts and fans.

The Rockets, currently second in the Western Conference, have been linked to Durant as a possible addition to bolster their championship aspirations. Despite General Manager Rafael Stone‘s reluctance to make major moves before the season ends, the idea of acquiring Durant has gained traction in media discussions.

Durant, a 14-time All-Star, is averaging 27.2 points on 52.4% shooting this season. However, the Suns’ underwhelming 19-20 record has fueled speculation about their willingness to trade the 35-year-old forward. “If Houston doesn’t bite and chooses to wait and see how its young core does in the playoffs before making a run at someone like De’Aaron Fox (or Devin Booker) this summer, Phoenix should pick up the phone and see how the 28 other teams feel about adding KD,” wrote The Ringer’s Michael Pina.

Proposed trade packages include sending Fred VanVleet and Jeff Green to Phoenix, along with draft picks, to match Durant’s $55 million salary. While Durant’s addition could provide immediate offensive firepower, concerns remain about disrupting the Rockets’ chemistry. Despite injuries to Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason, Houston has maintained its momentum with recent wins over Memphis and Denver.

“This Rockets team seems to gel together quite well,” noted one analyst. “Making a trade like this is a very win-now move. We have not even seen this team in a playoff basketball setting.”

Durant’s contract expires after the 2025-26 season, adding urgency to any potential deal. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Durant’s former team, have been mentioned as another possible destination. However, with a league-best 33-6 record, the Thunder may not see a need to pursue the veteran forward.

As trade rumors swirl, the Suns face mounting pressure to address their roster’s shortcomings. “The Suns should be proactive here,” Pina added. “The alternative is where they currently are, encased in a pressure-packed work environment that sees every win as a relief and every loss as a step toward more disruption.”
