Houston Rockets Jalen Green Game Action

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Rockets overcame injuries to key players for a decisive 97-84 victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday night at the Toyota Center, marking their third consecutive win.

With second-year wing Amen Thompson and veteran point guard Fred VanVleet sidelined due to ankle injuries, the Rockets were forced to alter their lineup. In response, guard Jalen Green stepped into a crucial role, finishing the game with 15 points and a game-high eight assists.

This win improves Houston’s record to 40-25 for the season, as they prepare to face the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, the third game of a six-game homestand. The Rockets’ success in this game comes as they have relied heavily on Green’s evolving playmaking ability, especially with Thompson expected to miss 10-14 days.

“Jalen continues to improve as a playmaker,” said Rockets coach Ime Udoka. “He stepped up to fill a more significant role today which was important for our team.”

Green’s performance reflects a notable growth, having previously recorded no more than six assists in any game this season. His contributions were essential as the Rockets adjusted to the absence of their leading ball-handlers.

Aaron Holiday and Alperen Sengun also contributed with four assists each, collectively offsetting the impact of Thompson’s and VanVleet’s injuries.

In addition to Green, forward Jabari Smith Jr. added to the Rockets’ offensive output with a 20-point performance, his first 20-point outing since December. Smith connected on five three-pointers, showcasing his steadily developing skill set.

“The versatility continues to help us. We can play Jabari in big lineups or downsize with him as well,” Udoka explained. “Any time a team goes zone, you like having him in the middle or spotting up on the perimeter.”

The Suns, conversely, are struggling, having lost four of their last six games, including a tight 120-118 defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. This loss dropped Phoenix to 6-14 since the All-Star break, with missed opportunities late in games contributing to their recent troubles.

“We’ve got to continue to try and make fewer mistakes and force our opponent to make more mistakes,” said Suns coach Mike Budenholzer. “It’s a handful of games that just come down to one possession, and those critical moments are what we need to focus on.”

With both teams seeking a much-needed victory ahead of their matchup on Wednesday night, the stakes are high. For the Rockets, integrating Green’s newfound facilitation skills will be vital for continuing their winning streak.

As the teams prepare to clash in Houston, fans can expect a fast-paced, competitive game fueled by the desire for victory from both sides.
