Rockets Prepare to Face Warriors in NBA Playoff Showdown

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Rockets are preparing for their first-round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors. Coach Ime Udoka led the team through a spirited practice at the Memorial Hermann training center on Saturday, just a day before Game 1 kicks off.
During practice, Udoka demonstrated his hands-on coaching style by participating in drills and offering feedback. Forward Dillon Brooks praised Udoka, saying, “He’s a players’ coach. He loves to be in the mix. He holds guys accountable, no matter their role.” Under his leadership, the Rockets have significantly improved, going from 22 wins in 2022-23 to securing the second seed in the Western Conference with a record of 52-30 this season.
The Rockets have developed a team mantra, “sometimes you, sometimes me, always us,” emphasizing a collective approach to both defense and scoring. Stars like Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson have emerged as key players, with Sengun earning an All-Star nod and Thompson gaining recognition as a defensive force. Jalen Green expressed the team’s confidence, stating, “Our expectation is to get to the Finals.”
In contrast, their rival Warriors are a seasoned playoff team led by veteran Stephen Curry, who has won multiple championships. Curry acknowledged the challenge the Rockets present, highlighting their successful season. “They are a 2-seed for a reason,” he told reporters. “They’ve had an amazing year, and they seem to know who they are.”
The matchup is particularly intriguing given the history between the two franchises. Many current Rockets players were not part of previous playoff battles against the Warriors, which the Rockets struggled to overcome consistently. During the regular season, the Rockets defeated Golden State 106-96, a game in which Sengun excelled with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
As Game 1 approached, the Rockets aimed to build on their momentum from the regular season. Brooks described the Warriors as a necessary “stepping stone” that the team needs to defeat to make their championship aspirations a reality. He stated, “They’re a great team. They have history, but they’re not the same team anymore. It’s going to be a dogfight.”
Following their playoff loss to the Warriors in the opening game, the Rockets remain optimistic. Coach Udoka acknowledged that while they need to learn from the loss, they are eager to compete and improve in the upcoming games. “We didn’t play a great game, but we had our chances,” Udoka said. “We just have to do a few things better to win.” As the series unfolds, the Rockets hope to rewrite their legacy against a team that has defined their past playoff frustrations.
