Rockets Ready for Playoff Return; Lakers Rest Ahead of Strong Playoff Push

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Rockets are set to make their playoff return for the first time in five seasons, clinching the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference with a remarkable 52-win season. The Rockets will enjoy a brief respite before their playoff opener on April 20 at the Toyota Center.
Rockets all-star center Alperen Sengun expressed excitement about the team’s revival, stating, “After the last game the last three years, it was always like, ‘See you next year.’ Now, we’re just talking about the season is just the beginning.” Coach Ime Udoka emphasized that the team has “earned it” and “deserved it,” marking their unexpected success.
The Rockets will learn their playoff opponent after the conclusion of the play-in round, which includes Golden State and Memphis. Udoka noted, “It’s out of our control,” when asked about preferred matchups. With a six-day break, Udoka plans to keep the team sharp through scrimmages, likening parts of their preparations to training camp.
Emerging star Amen Thompson is eager to contribute in his first playoff appearance, promising to “come ready to compete” alongside his teammates. The Rockets’ fresh spirit and training regimen could be crucial as they approach the tough playoff competition ahead.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, the Lakers are also gearing up for the playoffs after clinching the No. 3 seed. Luka Doncic highlighted the significance of home-court advantage for the upcoming postseason as the Lakers guarantee a home game for the first time since 2012.
“Very important. It’s going to be my first time having home-court advantage, so I’m really excited about it,” Doncic remarked. Reflecting on their earlier goal, he noted that locking up the third seed had been a priority as the season progressed.
Currently, Doncic and the Lakers are set to rest before their playoff push begins on April 19. This season, the Lakers have demonstrated strong chemistry and depth, contributing to their championship aspirations. They await confirmation on their first-round opponent, expected from the cat fight of contenders including the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, or Golden State Warriors after Sunday’s games.
With the playoffs imminently approaching, both teams are generating excitement among their fan bases, looking to make significant strides in the postseason.
