Ballon D'or Contenders Football 2025

Manchester, England — Rodri, the Manchester City midfielder and 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, will not defend his title in 2025 due to a season-ending knee injury suffered in September.

This injury opens the door for new contenders to claim the coveted award. The 2024-25 season lacks international tournaments that impacted previous years, meaning club performances will weigh heavily in the judges’ decision.

With Rodri unable to compete, players from various clubs are stepping up as favorites to claim the prestigious Golden Ball. Among them is Pedri, the Barcelona midfielder, who is having a remarkable season under coach Hansi Flick.

Pedri has played in 52 matches this season and has been essential to Barcelona’s efforts. He commented on his performance, saying, “Since Rodri won, it has been clear that a player who controls midfield and sets the pace can win the Ballon d’Or.”

He expressed a desire to lift the Ballon d’Or but emphasized the importance of titles. “My focus is on the team and winning three trophies,” he stated. “When this month is over, we can start talking about that.”

Pedri also praised Flick’s coaching style, noting his supportive approach while maintaining discipline. “He acts like a father, helping us when we struggle,” he said. The competition for the 2025 Ballon d’Or is heating up, especially as players like Pedri set their sights on football’s biggest individual honor.
