Rohit Sharma Crosses 7000 Runs in IPL History

New Chandigarh, India – Rohit Sharma reached a significant milestone in his Indian Premier League (IPL) career on Friday by becoming only the second player to surpass 7000 runs. He achieved this during a crucial Eliminator match against the Gujarat Titans at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
In a standout performance, Rohit scored a commanding 81 runs off 50 balls, hitting nine fours and four sixes. Although he was dropped twice by the Gujarat fielders, Rohit took full advantage of these chances, contributing to Mumbai Indians’ strong powerplay score.
His journey to this milestone began slowly, having been dropped twice early in his innings. The first dropped catch came when he was on three runs, as South African bowler Gerald Coetzee failed to catch a pull shot. Just an over later, wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis also dropped him after he edged a delivery from Mohammed Siraj.
“I didn’t let the missed catches affect me,” Rohit said after the match. “I just focused on playing my game.” His aggressive batting style shone through as he punished Sai Kishore for two boundaries and a six.
Rohit celebrated reaching the 7000-run milestone by sweeping Rashid Khan over the boundary for six in the ninth over. This impressive hit also brought his total sixes in IPL to 300. Shortly after, he reached his 47th IPL half-century, scoring 50 runs in just 28 balls.
Since making his debut in 2008 with the Deccan Chargers, Rohit has been a key player in the league. After winning his first IPL title in 2009, he joined Mumbai Indians in 2011, leading them to five championship victories. With 7000 runs accumulated over 271 matches, Rohit holds an average close to 30.
His impressive innings ended when he misplayed a slower ball from Prasidh Krishna, resulting in a catch by Rashid Khan at midwicket. Despite missing a century, Rohit’s performance made a powerful impact in the match against the Titans and added to his legacy in the IPL.
