The New England Patriots reported that rookie quarterback Drake Maye is contending with a knee injury, as noted in the team’s injury report issued on Wednesday. Despite the complication, Maye participated fully in practice at Gillette Stadium and appeared at his usual media availability.

According to a report by Phil Perry of NBC Sports, the Patriots are not overly concerned about the injury, and Maye is anticipated to play in the upcoming game this Sunday. The 22-year-old quarterback underwent an MRI after practice as a precautionary measure, as indicated by journalist Ben Volin from The Boston Globe.

Maye, the third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, recently stepped into the starting quarterback role, replacing veteran Jacoby Brissett. In his first career start against the Houston Texans, Maye completed 20 of 33 pass attempts, accruing 243 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also faced significant pressure, being sacked four times and hit an additional eight times, which included a strip sack by Texans players Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter.

Maye’s performance marked a notable improvement for the Patriots’ offense, which scored a season-high of 21 points in a 41-21 loss. “I feel all right,” Maye remarked postgame. “I think when you’re playing quarterback in the NFL, you’re going to be sore the next day. That’s part of it.”

Aside from Maye, several other Patriots players are dealing with injuries affecting the team’s lineup. Notably, running back Rhamondre Stevenson did not practice due to a foot injury, which had also sidelined him during the recent Texas game. In Stevenson’s absence, Maye emerged as the leading rusher with 38 yards.

The Patriots’ full injury report reveals several players who did not participate or had limited participation in practice. These include cornerback Marcus Jones due to groin and illness issues, tackle Vederian Lowe with an ankle injury, and multiple others with varying ailments.

The Patriots are scheduled to travel to London post-practice on Thursday, preparing to face the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium. The pivotal game will kick off at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, October 20.
