PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Rookie linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is poised to take on a larger role for the Philadelphia Eagles in their NFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. With starting linebacker Nakobe Dean sidelined due to a knee injury, Trotter, a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, could see increased playing time in a critical postseason matchup.

Trotter, who has primarily contributed on special teams this season, made a significant impact in the Eagles’ Wild Card victory over the Green Bay Packers. On the opening kickoff, he recovered a fumble by Packers All-Pro kick returner Keisean Nixon, setting up Philadelphia’s first touchdown in their 22-10 win. Despite limited defensive snaps during the regular season, Trotter has earned the trust of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

“We’re not afraid to put him in there,” Fangio said. “Trot’s got a good future, and that future may be now. He’s got good instincts, really likes the game. He’s smart. He’s got a lot of good qualities.”

Throughout the season, Trotter has played just 104 defensive snaps, with 76 of those coming in the last two weeks. His preparation and practice reps alongside veteran linebacker Zack Baun have positioned him for this opportunity. “I prepared every single week like I was going to start,” Trotter said. “I just have full faith in God that he’ll be with me and guide me on the field.”

Baun, a key leader in the Eagles’ linebacker room, expressed confidence in Trotter’s readiness. “Yeah, Trot is definitely ready,” Baun said. “He’s been ready for a long time now. He’s really excited, and I’m excited for him and Oren [Burks].”

Trotter, the son of Eagles legend Jeremiah Trotter Sr., understands the significance of playoff football in Philadelphia. “Growing up as the son of an Eagles legend, I know what playoff football means in this town,” Trotter said. “It’s special for me to be a part of it.”

While Trotter continues to fulfill his rookie duties, including stocking the linebacker room with snacks like Sour Patch Kids and Fruit Gushers, his focus remains on contributing to the Eagles’ playoff run. If Philadelphia advances, Trotter’s role could expand further, potentially leading to a trip to the NFC Championship Game.
