Rory McIlroy Defends Title at Truist Championship in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Truist Championship continues as one of the premier events on the PGA TOUR, with Rory McIlroy defending his title at the Philadelphia Cricket Club‘s Wissahickon Course. This tournament marks the sixth Signature Event of the 2025 FedExCup season.
The second round’s tee times were adjusted to 8:00 a.m. to 10:01 a.m. due to anticipated inclement weather, with golfers starting off the first and tenth holes in threesomes. After the first round, Keith Mitchell led the pack with an impressive 9-under 61, while McIlroy opened his title defense with a 4-under 66.
Mitchell, who played an aggressive round, finished with a 6-under 29 on the front nine, placing him just one stroke ahead of Denny McCarthy. Four players are tied for third place at 7-under: Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Sepp Straka, and Akshay Bhatia.
McIlroy, looking to secure his second consecutive victory at this event, trails by five strokes. Last year, he overcame a two-stroke deficit in the final round to clinch his win, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.
Golf fans can catch the tournament live, with special programming including ‘The Drop,’ a new weekly show from the PGA TOUR Studios. PGA TOUR LIVE coverage is available on ESPN+, offering extensive streaming options throughout the weekend.
