Rory Mcilroy Zurich Classic Golf Tournament

BELFAST, Northern Ireland — Rory McIlroy, 35, is gearing up to compete in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, starting April 24, after celebrating his recent Masters victory. McIlroy secured his first Masters title on April 13, making him the sixth golfer to achieve the career Grand Slam.

Arriving at Belfast City Airport with his daughter Poppy, McIlroy was greeted by fans eager for his return after a momentous trip to Ireland. Following the Masters, he traveled with Poppy to honor his parents, Rosie and Jerry, who were unable to attend the tournament.

“It’s incredible to finally win this title,” McIlroy told reporters shortly after his return. “I’ve dreamed about this moment for as long as I can remember; I’m honored to be a Masters champion.”

The golfer hopes to continue his momentum at the Zurich Classic alongside long-time friend Shane Lowry, 38, with whom he won the event last year. “We’ll be there,” Lowry confirmed. “I talked to him Wednesday morning. We’re good to go.” Lowry noted that McIlroy has the choice to take time for himself but is determined to play.

Since winning at Augusta National Golf Club, media interest in McIlroy’s personal life has surged, highlighting his relationship with his wife, Erica Stoll, and their four-year-old daughter. McIlroy reflected on the emotional journey leading to his Masters win, particularly the sudden-death playoff against Justin Rose. “I was riding the emotions like everyone else,” Lowry added, recalling the tension of the final moments.

McIlroy’s victory ended an 11-year wait for the coveted green jacket, and he expressed his joy and sense of relief. “It’s the best day of my golfing life, and I’m proud of never giving up,” he stated during the celebration. The golfer’s achievement places him alongside legends like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus in the elite Grand Slam club.

Despite the ups and downs in his personal life, including a brief divorce scare last year, McIlroy’s focus remains on his family and the sport he loves. His return to competition at the Zurich Classic marks the beginning of what he hopes will be a successful season.
