Roughriders and Alouettes Clash for Top Spot in the CFL

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are gearing up for a big showdown against the Montreal Alouettes this Thursday, where the winner will take home the top spot in the CFL with a 6-1 record. Roughriders Head Coach Corey Mace is keeping his focus simple, stating the only ‘big game’ is the one at the end of the year.

Despite the hype around the game, Mace emphasizes the week-to-week improvements their team needs to focus on. Middle linebacker Jameer Thurman shared his excitement about the tough environment at Percival Molson Stadium, noting they always look forward to such challenges.

The matchup is set to be a defensive battle, as both teams are among the top in the league for points allowed per game. The Roughriders enter this game after a solid 19-9 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, adding to the anticipation for a game featuring two strong defenses.

On the Roughriders’ defense, Rolan Milligan Jr. is making waves with an impressive performance this season. He currently leads the CFL with nine pass knockdowns, putting him halfway to the season record shared by Malcolm Frank and Adrion Smith.

The Roughriders will also be looking to adjust their offensive strategy with A.J. Ouellette on the sidelines due to a hip injury, but quarterback Shea Patterson is confident in their backup, Frankie Hickson, who brings explosive speed to the game.

Meanwhile, the Alouettes are facing their own challenges, as starting quarterback Cody Fajardo will not be in action due to a hamstring injury. Instead, Caleb Evans will step up, and he has had some success in the past, winning two games as the starter last season.

The Alouettes are hoping to maintain their current momentum, having had a strong start to the season, but they will be without receiver Kaion Julien-Grant. Patterson, on the other hand, continues to build his rapport with the Roughriders’ receivers as he sets up for another starting opportunity.

As the teams prepare for this critical face-off, both franchises are looking to secure a stronger hold within their divisions. The excitement is palpable as players and fans alike get ready to witness one of the season’s standout matchups.
