Kansas City Royals Vs Chicago White Sox

CHICAGO, IL — The Kansas City Royals will face the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field this weekend, with the first game set for Friday, June 6, 2025. While the White Sox are improving from last year’s dismal performance, they remain a challenging opponent for the Royals.

Last season, the White Sox had a historically bad record of 15-47 at this point, but this year they have managed a 20-43 record. They recently split a four-game series with the Detroit Tigers, showcasing their ability to win games against strong teams.

The Royals, currently with a record of 33-30, are looking to take advantage of the White Sox’s struggles. Despite scoring only 3.43 runs per game — ranking them 27th in Major League Baseball — the Royals have performed well on the mound, allowing just 3.48 runs per game, placing them 4th in that category.

While the Royals have seen some offensive contributions from players like Jac Caglianone, who is not yet hitting to his potential, the White Sox’s lineup has struggled as well. The team boasts only 48 home runs this season, third worst in the league. Mike Tauchman’s recent return has offered a slight boost, but his performance raises questions about his sustainability.

Pitching will play a key role in the series. On Friday, Seth Lugo will start for the Royals, while Davis Martin takes the mound for the White Sox. Lugo has a 3.45 ERA this season with a 0.2 WAR, while Martin holds a similar 3.67 ERA, although with a less favorable FIP. Each team’s bullpen has been inconsistent, further heightening the stakes for this weekend’s matchup.

As the series unfolds, expectations are sky-high for the Royals. Managing to win two out of three games will be seen as a success, but a sweep could solidify their standing as they continue their push for postseason contention.
