Royals and Cardinals Play Split Doubleheader in St. Louis Today

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals are set to play a split doubleheader today after rain postponed their game yesterday. The first game starts at 12:45 PM local time, and the second game is scheduled for 6:45 PM.
Fans who had tickets for yesterday’s game can use them to attend the first game today. Additionally, the Cardinals will provide those fans a voucher for a future home game during the week. This doubleheader marks the fifth of the season for the Cardinals, who have faced numerous weather-related delays. Following these games, the Cardinals will begin a demanding stretch of 28 games in 28 days.
In Game 1, rookie pitcher Noah Cameron, who has a 1.05 ERA in four starts, will take the mound for the Royals against veteran Miles Mikolas, who has a 3.90 ERA in 11 starts. The face-off is expected to be closely contested.
Game 2 is generating more excitement as it marks the return of former AL Cy Young finalist Cole Ragans, who hasn’t pitched since May 16 due to a groin strain. Ragans has struggled this season, holding a 4.53 ERA across nine starts. He will face off against breakout pitcher Matthew Liberatore, who boasts a 3.08 ERA going into his 12th start of the season.
In other baseball news, the Oakland Athletics are shaking up their pitching staff. They will call up right-hander Matt Spence for his first start of the 2025 season. The Athletics have been using a four-man rotation and are struggling with a 5.49 ERA overall. Spence, who has pitched primarily in relief this season, will likely provide depth in today’s game.
In roster updates, the Royals have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Thomas Hatch from Triple-A Omaha. Hatch was initially placed on the 60-day injured list to make space on the 40-man roster. He has had a solid performance in the minors, showcasing a 4.59 ERA, and is expected to provide long relief during today’s doubleheader.
The Royals are looking to capitalize on today’s games, especially with a fresh bullpen who was off yesterday due to the rainout. As the doubleheader approaches, the anticipation among fans and players continues to build.
