Ruben Amorim Expresses Embarrassment Over United’s Poor Season

Manchester, England – Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, expressed feelings of “embarrassment” on Sunday following his team’s 2-0 loss to West Ham. This defeat marked the club’s 17th loss in the Premier League this season, setting a record for the club and leaving them in 16th place out of 20 teams.
After the match, Amorim acknowledged that this may be the worst team in the club’s history. “It’s my fault, I am responsible. If we cannot change this quickly, we should give our spot to others,” he said, casting doubt on his own future with the team.
This season, United has suffered more losses than any other season since the Premier League’s inception in 1992 and is on track to record its worst points total. Amorim stressed the need for the team to be more aggressive, stating, “We need to feel it’s the end of the world when we don’t win a match.”
Amorim was hired in November to replace Erik ten Hag and has faced challenges in turning the team’s fortunes around. Ten Hag was dismissed despite winning trophies in his first two years, including the English League Cup in 2023.
United’s situation looks grim, and with two matches remaining, they could accumulate a maximum of 45 points this season. Amorim remarked, “If we do not change the way we play and feel this urgency to win, we should not be playing in the Champions League.”
Despite its poor league performance, United still has a chance to redeem its season by winning the Europa League later this month, which would also secure a spot in the Champions League. However, Amorim noted that the focus on the upcoming final might have contributed to the team’s lack of urgency in the league.
As the team returns to training, Amorim aims to instill a winning mentality in his squad as they prepare for their next match. “We need to change many things,” he concluded, emphasizing the urgency that remains for his players.
