Hamburg, GermanyAndrey Rublev advanced to the semifinals of the Hamburg Open on May 22, 2025, securing a hard-fought victory over Luciano Darderi. The third seed defeated Darderi with a final score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, showcasing his resilience after a challenging few months on the ATP Tour.

Rublev, a 17-time ATP Tour champion, expressed relief at his performance, stating, “I’m happy to be in the semi-final. These were a couple of matches that I needed. I need wins.” He added that battling through tough matches is crucial for his game, saying, “I was missing these kinds of matches because I really need them.”

Since winning an ATP 500 title in Doha in February, Rublev had struggled with a 2-7 record. However, he has found his form again in Hamburg, having previously won the tournament in 2019 and 2020. In his latest match, he successfully converted three of seven break points against Darderi, culminating in a victory that took just under two hours.

Next, Rublev will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals. Auger-Aliassime progressed by narrowly defeating his opponent with scores of 7-6(4), 6-7(8), 6-3. Historically, Rublev has a strong record against Auger-Aliassime, leading their head-to-head series 6-1.

In the other semifinal, Tomás Etcheverry secured his spot with a 7-5, 6-3 win, marking his first appearance in a tour-level semifinal. After dropping below the Top 50 last month, Etcheverry’s current performance could see him return to the rankings, aiming for his first ATP title in Hamburg.
