In an exciting opening to the gymnastics competition in Paris, 17-year-old Ruby Evans and her team from Britain took center stage, despite a little mishap during their routines.

Ruby, alongside her teammates Beckie Downie, Alice Kinsella, Georgia Mae-Fenton, and Abi Martin, made a strong start, positioning themselves well for the upcoming finals. With the glitz of Hollywood around them, including stars like Tom Cruise and Ariana Grande, the atmosphere was electric.

Evans had a tough moment when she fell on the uneven bars, but she quickly regrouped and showed impressive determination. When she learned of the famous spectators watching, she playfully said, “What the hell?” and expressed how surreal it felt to perform in front of such icons.

Despite a lower score on the floor routine, Ruby felt proud of her performance overall, sharing that it was a nerve-wracking experience but she knew she could handle it.

Britain’s gymnastics team, benefiting from support through UK Sport’s National Lottery-funded World Class Programme, is training in top-notch facilities and has access to world-class coaches as they gear up for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

In their opening session, Team GB faced off against Romania and are now in strong contention for a medal in Tuesday’s finals. They will have to face tough competition from the United States, particularly with veteran gymnast Simone Biles making a comeback after her experiences in Tokyo.

Ruby expressed her admiration for Biles, noting her incredible talent and the unique position she holds in gymnastics. “I don’t think we ever will have anyone like her again,” Ruby stated, recognizing the inspiration Biles brings to young athletes.

The excitement of the competition continues to build, and for the British gymnasts, this moment is just the beginning of a thrilling Olympic journey.
