Rudy Gobert Minnesota Timberwolves Game 2025

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Rudy Gobert, the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ polarizing center, delivered a commanding performance Saturday night, silencing critics and leading his team to a crucial victory over the Denver Nuggets. The 32-year-old, often scrutinized for his recent statistical decline, scored 14 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and recorded four steals in a nationally televised game at Target Center.

Gobert, a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, has faced mounting criticism this season for his underwhelming rebounding and defensive metrics. Averaging his fewest rebounds since his second NBA season, Gobert acknowledged his struggles earlier in the week, vowing to improve. “I’ve got to be better,” he said at practice on Friday. “Don’t overthink it. Just go get it.”

His resurgence couldn’t have come at a better time for the Timberwolves, who have struggled to find consistency this season. Facing reigning MVP Nikola Jokić and the surging Nuggets, Gobert was tasked with guarding Jokić one-on-one—a matchup that many expected to favor Denver. Instead, Gobert held his own, limiting Jokić to 20 points and forcing seven turnovers. The Wolves won the minutes Gobert was on the court by 26 points, a testament to his impact.

“He knows how much we need him,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said. “We’ve talked a lot recently about that and getting back to that.” Gobert’s performance galvanized his teammates, with Anthony Edwards scoring 34 points and dishing out nine assists, while Jaden McDaniels added 21 points and seven rebounds.

Gobert’s offensive contributions were particularly noteworthy. He finished 6-of-8 from the field, including a floater and an and-1 play, while also dishing out five assists. His ability to serve as an offensive hub against Denver’s drop coverage was pivotal. “I love it,” Gobert said. “I think for me it’s just about being poised, just being patient, because I can pass.”

The victory was a reminder of Gobert’s importance to the Timberwolves’ success. Despite his recent struggles, he remains a tone-setter for the team. “We know what Rudy is deep down and what kind of player he is for our team,” said point guard Mike Conley. “We’re going to do everything in our power to make the game easier for him.”

As the Timberwolves look to climb the Western Conference standings, Gobert’s ability to sustain this level of play will be critical. For now, he has quieted the doubters—at least for one night.
