Rui Hachimura Set for Lakers as NBA Playoffs Approach

LOS ANGELES, California — Rui Hachimura is poised to make a significant impact for the Los Angeles Lakers as they head into the NBA playoffs, following a week of rest that has helped his recovery from a knee injury.
The 25-year-old forward, who previously dealt with patellar tendinopathy, expressed confidence about his health during a press session on Wednesday. “It’s for sure better, yeah way better than when we talked about it,” Hachimura said. “My knee’s getting better. I can jump now, so yeah, I just got to manage it.”
The Lakers clinched the third seed in the Western Conference, securing a week off before starting their playoff run, a benefit the team had not experienced in recent years. Hachimura, who missed significant time due to the knee injury, noted the importance of the break for both physical and mental recovery. “Having a week off is vital. We haven’t been afforded that in years prior,” he said.
Hachimura has been a crucial asset for the Lakers since joining the team during the 2022-23 season. This season, he averaged 13.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 50.9% from the field. “When he plays well, he seems to raise the Lakers’ ceiling,” said an unnamed team source.
Despite missing 12 consecutive games earlier this year, Hachimura’s recent performances have been pivotal. The Lakers’ record improved to 22-7 when he takes at least 10 shots in a game, showing his value as a contributing player. Additionally, he pointed out an adjustment with the current game schedule, stating, “We have two days in between this series, so yeah, just gotta manage it and then just probably each game as much as possible.”
As they prepare for their upcoming match against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Hachimura emphasized the advantages of extended breaks between playoff games. “It’s great because we can get rest, but also we can adjust,” he explained. “Each game is going to be different. They’re gonna change the lineups, how they guard us, so with those two days we have time to adjust.”
The Timberwolves, coming off a strong previous season and known for their physical play, present a challenge for the Lakers, but Hachimura remains optimistic. Head coach JJ Redick indicated that he will be utilizing various strategies to ensure the team is well-prepared for the matchup.
Hachimura’s readiness for the postseason comes at a crucial time for the Lakers, who are eager to capitalize on their home-court advantage. “I’m happy about it and ready for it,” he said, underscoring the team’s determination to advance further in the playoffs this year.
