Rui Hachimura Wearing Protective Mask During Nba Game

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — Lakers forward Rui Hachimura will don a protective mask in Game 3 of the playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves after sustaining a facial injury in Game 2. The decision came after Hachimura was hit in the face during the match, but head coach JJ Redick said the injury is not serious.

Despite his injury, Hachimura’s presence on the court is vital for the Lakers, particularly against the Timberwolves’ large frontcourt featuring Rudy Gobert and Naz Reid. Redick emphasized that Hachimura is ‘fine’ and the mask will be used as a precaution for the time being.

In Game 2, Hachimura managed to contribute significantly with 11 points, five rebounds, two steals, and a block, helping Los Angeles even the series at one game apiece. His performance allowed the Lakers to limit Minnesota’s opportunities in the paint and from beyond the arc.

Hachimura logged 34 minutes in the game before leaving briefly to receive medical attention for his injury. He returned wearing a protective mask, which is expected to ease his adjustment moving forward. ‘His ability to guard multiple positions makes him essential,’ Redick added.

The Lakers are seeking to maintain balance in their lineup as they face the Timberwolves’ aggressive style of play. The series is tied 1-1, and both teams will meet again Friday night in Minnesota. Hachimura’s continued production will be crucial for Los Angeles’ chances of taking the lead in the series.
