Russell Wilson, the veteran NFL quarterback, has navigated a career marked by record-breaking contracts, Super Bowl glory, and a recent bargain deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After a tumultuous two-year stint with the Denver Broncos, Wilson signed a one-year, $1.21 million contract with the Steelers in March 2024, making him one of the lowest-paid quarterbacks in the league this season.

Wilson’s journey began in 2012 when he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks. Defying expectations as a third-round pick, he quickly became the starting quarterback and led the team to a Super Bowl XLVIII victory in 2013. Over the next decade, Wilson earned seven Pro Bowl selections and set a record for the most wins (75) by a quarterback in his first seven seasons.

His contracts mirrored his on-field success. After a modest rookie deal, Wilson signed an $87.6 million extension in 2015, followed by a $140 million contract in 2019, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time. In 2022, he joined the Broncos on a five-year, $242.5 million deal, but his performance fell short of expectations, leading to his release in 2024 and saddling Denver with an $85 million dead cap hit—the largest in NFL history.

Despite his struggles in Denver, Wilson’s legacy remains intact. Off the field, he co-founded the “Why Not You Foundation” with his wife, Ciara, and co-authored a New York Times bestselling children’s book. His real estate ventures, including a $25 million home purchase in Denver, further highlight his financial acumen.

Wilson’s move to Pittsburgh marks a new chapter. The Broncos are still paying him $37.79 million this season, while the Steelers benefit from his bargain deal. With a 6-5 record as a starter in 2024, Wilson aims to prove his worth in the postseason as the Steelers face the Baltimore Ravens in a wild-card playoff game.
