PISCATAWAY − The Rutgers Scarlet Knights opened their season with a decisive victory against the Howard Bison, winning 44-7 at SHI Stadium on Thursday night.

Despite a sluggish start, Rutgers’ offense surged in the second half. Freshman running back Antwan Raymond concluded the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run as the final seconds ticked away.

In the closing moments of the game, Athan Kaliakmanis connected with tight end Kenny Fletcher for a three-yard touchdown pass, extending Rutgers’ lead to 38-7 with 4:16 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Earlier, Kaliakmanis delivered a 34-yard touchdown pass to running back Sam Brown, marking Brown’s first career touchdown catch and putting Rutgers ahead 31-7 with just 2:33 left in the third quarter.

Kyle Monangai also had a notable performance, rushing for a seven-yard touchdown that brought Rutgers’ lead to 24-7 with 8:06 remaining in the third quarter. This run allowed him to tie his single-game career high with 165 rushing yards.

The Bison managed to score just before halftime, with Eden James running in a two-yard touchdown to cut the score to 14-7.

Rutgers began the scoring with a touchdown from Kaliakmanis to Dymere Miller. This two-yard touchdown pass capped a seven-play, 55-yard drive, and marked Miller’s first touchdown after transferring from Monmouth University.

The Scarlet Knights’ strong performance has set the tone for the season, showcasing both offensive talent and strong rushing capabilities.
