Ruud van Nistelrooy Set for Sensational Return to Manchester United Coaching Staff
Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is on the brink of making a sensational return to the club’s coaching staff under head coach Erik ten Hag.
Reports from the Netherlands suggest Van Nistelrooy, the ex-PSV Eindhoven boss, is in discussions to rejoin Old Trafford after 18 years since his departure.
According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has earmarked Van Nistelrooy as part of a strategic move to revamp Ten Hag’s backroom team.
Van Nistelrooy, who enjoyed success with PSV Eindhoven guiding them to the KNVB Cup in 2023 with a solid 65% win rate, ended his stint at the Dutch club at the conclusion of last season.
The 47-year-old former striker, who netted 150 goals in 217 appearances during his time at the Theatre of Dreams, was recently in talks with Burnley over a coaching role following Vincent Kompany‘s departure.
However, Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad now reports that Van Nistelrooy is in advanced discussions to reunite with Manchester United as an assistant coach.
His potential return will certainly excite the fanbase, although it raises questions about the future of current backroom staff members like Benni McCarthy, whose contract is nearing its end.
INEOS, the club’s owners, have signaled their desire for changes to be made within the coaching setup to align with their vision for the team under Ten Hag’s leadership.
Ten Hag, whose contract is due to expire in 2025, is also engaged in negotiations with Manchester United over a possible extension to his tenure at the club.
