Ryan Crouser Wins Third Consecutive Olympic Gold in Shot Put
It’s that time again, as Ryan Crouser has done it once more—he’s taken home the gold medal in shot put at the Olympics! This year, he made history in Paris by becoming the first shot putter, man or woman, to win a staggering three Olympic golds.
Crouser’s winning throw was an impressive 22.90 meters. You could feel the thrill in the air at Stade de France as his U.S. teammate Joe Kovacs claimed yet another silver medal with a great throw of 22.15 meters despite the heavy rain. And let’s not forget Jamaican Rajindra Campbell, who made headlines by snagging the bronze—marking the first time someone from Jamaica has ever medaled in shot put.
What really makes Crouser’s victory even more special is the journey he’s had this year. He’s been battling some serious injuries, including blood clots in his leg and recent elbow and pectoral surgeries. Just imagine the determination it took for him to push through all of that to compete.
Crouser was born into a family of athletes; his dad, Mitch, was an alternate in the 1984 Olympics, and his cousin competed in Rio. It seems like being a champion run in his blood! With the world record in shot put and now three Olympic gold medals to his name, his legacy in sports is solidified.
As Crouser stood on the podium, the moment felt routine for him—winning gold for the third time in a row is a wild achievement. Meanwhile, his fellow U.S. teammate Kovacs has also made his mark, becoming the first athlete to win three silver medals in this event.
Crouser’s winning throw was massive, and it only got better with each attempt. His first throw would have easily won the gold, but he just kept going, making his second and final throws even more impressive.
With so much talent and skill on display, it’s no surprise that Crouser’s win felt inevitable. Despite his recent struggles, he showed the world once again why he’s the top shot putter in history.
