Ryan Reynolds Wrexham Football Promotion

Wrexham, WalesRyan Reynolds, co-owner of Wrexham AFC, expressed his nerves ahead of a crucial weekend for his team’s promotion to the Championship. With just two games left in the season, Wrexham sits in second place in League One, needing a win against Charlton Athletic on Saturday to secure their promotion.

Reynolds described his stress as developing ‘an eight-inch ulcer in my stomach’ during remarks made at the TIME100 Summit. If Wrexham defeats Charlton and third-placed Wycombe Wanderers fails to win against Leyton Orient, Wrexham will move up the football ladder. Birmingham City has already clinched the League One title.

Since Reynolds and co-owner Rob McElhenney took over the club in 2021, Wrexham has gained immense popularity. Initially struggling, the team’s turnaround has made them a fan favorite, especially after the success of the docuseries ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ on Disney+.

“It all comes down to the next two weeks,” Reynolds said. “They just can’t do it easy; like just one year let’s do it without having receding hairlines all around.”

Wrexham’s taste for dramatic moments has been highlighted this season, creating excitement among fans. Reynolds added that while their rise has included spectacular last-minute victories, the pressure of the situation continues to weigh heavily on him: ‘That’s not a consolation at all.’

As they head into the final days of the season, Wrexham remains two points ahead of Wycombe. The team could still gain promotion through the playoffs if they do not secure direct promotion. However, Reynolds and the Wrexham community are eager to reach the Championship this weekend.
