Ryan Theis Marquette Volleyball Coach News

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — After a decade-long tenure at Marquette University, women’s volleyball head coach Ryan Theis has accepted a new position at the University of Florida. The announcement was made on February 17, 2025, initiating a national search for Theis’s successor.

Theis leaves Marquette with an impressive record of 258 wins and 87 losses, achieving a .748 winning percentage, one of the highest in the program’s history. His accomplishments include leading the Golden Eagles to three consecutive Big East regular-season championships and guiding the team to the NCAA tournament’s Sweet Sixteen this past fall.

In his time at Marquette, Theis compiled a remarkable 154-31 record in conference play. His leadership played a pivotal role in elevating the volleyball program’s national stature.

“We are deeply grateful for Ryan’s leadership and dedication during his time with us,” said Mike Broeker, Marquette’s Vice President and Director of Athletics. “His contributions have been instrumental in elevating our volleyball program and expanding its national presence. As we look back on the significant accomplishments of the past decade-plus, we are confident that our program is well-positioned for continued success in the future.”

With Theis departing, assistant coach LJ Marx will serve as the interim head coach while the university begins its search for a permanent replacement. Theis’s move to Florida marks a new chapter in his coaching career.
