Ryan Wingo Shines as True Freshman Star for No. 1 Texas Football
Ryan Wingo, a true freshman wide receiver for the No. 1 Texas Longhorns, has been making significant waves in the college football scene. In the recent Red River Rivalry game against No. 18 Oklahoma, Wingo continued to impress, contributing to Texas’s strong performance despite the team’s favored status by a substantial margin.
Wingo, along with sophomore Tre Wisner, played a crucial role in shredding the Oklahoma defense, highlighting the depth and talent of Texas’s receiving corps. His performances have earned him high grades from Pro Football Focus (PFF), with an 83.9 grade through Week 5, making him one of the two highest-graded true freshmen in the country, alongside edge rusher Colin Simmons.
Despite being a true freshman, Wingo has already burned his redshirt, having played in five games this season. His impact has been immediate, and he is part of a highly talented 2024 signing class that has given Texas a significant boost on both sides of the ball.
Wingo’s emergence has been noted by several analysts, with Matt Miller of NFL Draft Scout praising the true freshman wide receivers, particularly Wingo, for their exceptional performance this season.
As Texas continues its dominant run, Wingo’s contributions are expected to remain pivotal, especially with the team facing a tough schedule in the second half of the regular season. His performance is a testament to the strong recruiting and development under Coach Steve Sarkisian.
