Sac State Football Sees Draft Success with Cameron Skattebo

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Former Sacramento State running back Cameron Skattebo was selected by the New York Giants with the 105th overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, continuing the Hornets’ trend of producing professional talent.
Before entering the NFL, Skattebo made a name for himself during his two seasons at Sac State, where he accumulated 2,412 all-purpose yards and 18 total touchdowns from 2021 to 2022. He was instrumental in leading the Hornets to a 12-1 overall record in the 2022 season.
“I worked hard to get here, and I’m excited to take the next step in my career,” Skattebo said after the draft pick was announced. “I want to show the Giants what I’m capable of.”
Skattebo earned the title of Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year in 2022 and led the conference in rushing yards per game at 113.7 and in yards per carry at 7.4. His standout performances included a memorable game against Eastern Washington, where he rushed for 201 yards.
After the 2022 season, Skattebo transferred to Arizona State University, where he continued to excel. In 2024, he helped lead the Sun Devils to an 11-3 season, rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns, while also becoming a presence in the passing game.
“I can’t wait to bring that same energy to the Giants,” Skattebo added. “I know I can play at this level, and I’m ready to prove myself.”
Skattebo’s path to the NFL marks a significant milestone for Sacramento State, as he joins a select group of former players who have made the leap to professional football. His success on the field reflects the growing reputation of the Hornets’ football program.
With a promising career ahead, fans and coaches alike are eager to see how Skattebo will contribute to the Giants’ backfield in the upcoming season.
