Saftu General Secretary Doubts Reconfiguration of Tripartite Alliance
South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) general secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi, expressed skepticism regarding the proposed reconfiguration of the tripartite alliance between the African National Congress (ANC), South African Communist Party (SACP), and Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu).
Vavi’s remarks came during a discussion on the Sunday Times Politics Weekly podcast with politics reporter Sisanda Mbolekwa. The concept of reconfiguration, as outlined in reports, entails a united commitment by the alliance to uphold and further the country’s progress based on the National Democratic Revolution (NDR) – the core principle of the Freedom Charter.
However, Vavi dismissed the notion of reconfiguration as merely a ‘fairytale’, casting doubt on the feasibility and sincerity of such a collaborative effort among the ANC, SACP, and Cosatu.
