Saints Hire T.J. Paganetti to Join Kellen Moore’s Coaching Staff

PHILADELPHIA – The New Orleans Saints have reportedly hired T.J. Paganetti as an assistant coach, as head coach Kellen Moore begins to fill out his inaugural staff. This move comes shortly after Moore’s hiring following the team’s successful campaign.
Paganetti, who served as the run game coordinator and assistant offensive line coach for the Eagles during their Super Bowl-winning season in 2024, will transition to his new role with the Saints. His specific title within the New Orleans coaching staff has yet to be announced, but his expertise in running game strategies is expected to play a vital role.
According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Paganetti has been with the Eagles since 2017, taking on multiple roles including quality control coach, assistant running backs coach, and assistant tight ends coach. His extensive coaching experience also includes two stints as an offensive analyst with the Oregon Ducks in 2013 and 2014.
“This is a big addition for Kellen Moore and his staff,” Underhill stated. “Paganetti has been integral to developing one of the most formidable running games during his time in Philadelphia.”
While further details on Paganetti’s responsibilities remain unclear, it is evident that his hiring signals a strategic focus on enhancing the Saints’ running game, which will be crucial as the team enters a new era under Moore’s leadership.
In addition to Paganetti, the Saints are also reportedly considering Eagles quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier for the offensive coordinator position. Nussmeier has been a key figure alongside Moore during their time together in various organizations, notably in Dallas and with the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Saints have also interviewed Eagles running backs coach Jemal Singleton and defensive backs coach Christian Parker for their respective coordinator positions, marking a substantial interest in Philadelphia’s coaching talent.
Moore’s departure from the Eagles means that they will have their fourth offensive coordinator since head coach Nick Sirianni took the helm. Currently, passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo is viewed as a top internal candidate for the position.
Sirianni acknowledged the challenge of retaining assistants who are sought after, stating, “This is my staff, and you can’t have these guys. It’s hard to build the staff and have that continuity.” He also mentioned that while it’s difficult to prevent these movements, each situation must be evaluated individually.
Paganetti’s successful run with the Eagles included impressive contributions, such as playing a significant part in Saquon Barkley breaking rushing records, with a total of 2,504 yards through Super Bowl LIX. His familiarity with Philadelphia’s strategies will be instrumental in supporting Moore’s vision for the Saints.
