Saints Prepare for Draft Decisions Amid Speculation

New Orleans, LA – As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, speculation is building around the New Orleans Saints and their potential picks with the ninth overall selection. The draft, set for Thursday night, showcases a class that many scouts believe is weaker than in previous years, particularly at the top.
While standout players like Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, and Abdul Carter are expected to be selected early, the Saints could find themselves in a unique position. With teams potentially reaching for players earlier than expected, the choices for the Saints may not be as limited as they seem.
“The only way New Orleans risks making a detrimental choice is by selecting a quarterback at nine,” said an NFL analyst. “Otherwise, they have a variety of prospects to consider.” One intriguing option is Penn State tight end Tyler Warren, who some teams believe could be selected by the New York Jets before the Saints go on the clock. If Warren is off the board, Colston Loveland, who was once ranked as the top tight end in the draft, could be a viable alternative.
Labeled by scouts as a versatile receiver, Loveland’s skills allow him to excel both as an outside receiver and in the slot. While he needs to improve his blocking, his catching ability and route-running skills may make him an attractive choice for New Orleans.
Another area the Saints may explore is reinforcing their offensive line. Missouri right tackle Armand Membou and Texas left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. could both be options if selected at ninth overall. Banks, in particular, has seen a rise in his draft stock and is noted for his strong run-blocking abilities. However, concerns remain regarding his ability to handle edge rushers effectively.
If the Saints opt for an offensive lineman, they may need to reconsider how to align their players. Taliese Fuaga, who played right tackle in college, could be transitioned to accommodate either Membou or Banks.
Josh Simmons is another tackle being considered, pending the clearance of past medical issues. Simmons boasts impressive pass protection skills, having allowed no sacks last season, but will need to refine his run blocking.
As the first round unfolds, teams like the Denver Broncos, holding the No. 20 pick, are also engaging in discussions aimed at optimizing their opportunities with players like Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who has seen fluctuating draft prospects. The tight race creates a thrilling atmosphere leading into the draft.
The final decision on which prospects the Saints will select is still uncertain. However, with various paths open to them, expectations for an exciting first round remain high.
