Saints Seek to Interview Eagles’ Kellen Moore for Head Coaching Role
The New Orleans Saints have requested permission to interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their head coaching vacancy, according to reports from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport. The request comes as the Saints look to fill the role left vacant after the midseason firing of Dennis Allen.
Moore, 36, has been a key figure in the Eagles’ offensive success this season, helping the team secure a 14-3 record and the NFC East title. Under his guidance, the Eagles ranked eighth in total offense (367 yards per game) and seventh in scoring (27.1 points per game). Running back Saquon Barkley also became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts has thrived under Moore’s system, posting a 114.0 passer rating since Week 5, the third-highest in the league during that span. “He’s brought a unique approach,” Hurts said of Moore. “He’s definitely added a dimension for us with his philosophy of being multiple.”
Moore’s coaching journey began in 2018 as the Dallas Cowboys‘ quarterbacks coach, followed by four seasons as their offensive coordinator. After a one-year stint with the Los Angeles Chargers, he joined the Eagles in 2024. His offenses have ranked in the top 10 in scoring in four of his six seasons as a coordinator.
NFL rules prohibit assistant coaches on wild-card round teams from interviewing for head coaching positions until three days after their team’s game. If the Eagles advance, Moore’s interview with the Saints would be delayed until next week.
The Saints are also considering other candidates, including interim coach Darren Rizzi, Broncos senior personnel executive David Shaw, and several NFL coordinators. If Moore departs, the Eagles may turn to internal candidates such as quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier or assistant head coach Kevin Patullo to fill the offensive coordinator role.
Moore’s name has frequently surfaced in head coaching discussions in recent years. He previously interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Chargers for similar roles. The Saints, who have missed the playoffs for four consecutive seasons, are seeking a fresh start under new leadership.
