Saints Sign Defensive End Chris Rumph II to One-Year Contract

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The New Orleans Saints have strengthened their defense by signing unrestricted free agent defensive end Chris Rumph II to a one-year contract, announced Executive Vice President and General Manager Mickey Loomis on Monday.
Rumph, standing 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 244 pounds, was drafted in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. Over four seasons with the Chargers, he participated in 37 regular-season games, where he recorded 29 tackles, including 17 solo tackles, and registered three sacks.
Before losing the entire 2024 season to a foot injury while on Injured Reserve, Rumph showcased his skills in postseason play, appearing in the 2022 Wild Card Playoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars. His experience includes extensive special teams involvement, making him a versatile asset for the Saints.
Rumph previously attended Duke University, where he played in 36 games with 12 starts, accumulating 125 tackles, 17.5 sacks, and notable achievements during his junior season, where he earned All-American honors. This move also reunites him with defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, who coached him in Los Angeles.
With this addition, the Saints aim to bolster their defense as they prepare for the upcoming season.
