El Salvador Hosts FESAVELA International Regatta with Elite Competitors

Fesavela International Regatta 2025

Ilopango, El Salvador — The FESAVELA International Regatta 2025 kicked off on May 15 and will run through May 18 at the scenic Lago de Ilopango. This prestigious sailing event features over 60 competitors from several countries, including the United States, Uruguay, and Colombia.

The regatta is designed to provide high-quality training and competition for athletes in various categories, ahead of the upcoming Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay. Participants will compete in classes such as Optimist, Sunfish, and ILCA 4, 6, and 7.

Rodrigo J. Colorado, president of the Federación Salvadoreña de Vela, expressed confidence in El Salvador’s potential as a sailing destination. “Our country has the right conditions to become a reference point for sailing in the continent,” Colorado said. He emphasized how events like this not only promote youth opportunities but also help project El Salvador internationally.

On the first day, competition started with the registration of athletes, followed by the first races in the Sunfish female category at 1:00 p.m. Friday marks the official inauguration, featuring all categories in both male and female divisions throughout the day.

The regatta will conclude on Sunday with the medal races, which will determine the winners of this esteemed competition. Past events held at Lake Ilopango, including the Central American and Caribbean Games, have showcased the venue’s capability for international sailing.

Winners will be distinguished in a closing ceremony after the final races, highlighting the achievements of participants in a thrilling weekend of sailing.
