San Francisco 49ers Closing In On Fred Warner’s Contract Extension

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers are close to finalizing a multi-year contract extension with linebacker Fred Warner, NBC Sports Bay Area reported. This deal could make Warner the highest-paid inside linebacker in the NFL.
The 49ers appear eager to avoid the distractions seen in past offseasons. Last year, several players missed team activities due to contract negotiations. Warner’s extension comes after other star players like George Kittle and Brock Purdy secured new deals.
Speaking at his ProCamps event at St. Francis High School on Saturday, Warner expressed optimism about the offseason, stating, “I think it’s obviously worked out really well being able to knock those things out earlier. Allowing us to focus just purely on ball and getting better as a team, so things are moving in the right direction.”
Warner, 28, has been a consistent performer since being drafted in the third round in 2018. In his seven NFL seasons, he has made four Pro Bowls and earned four First-Team All-Pro honors. He has recorded 897 tackles and 15 forced fumbles in his career.
The linebacker still has two years left on his current five-year, $95 million contract. The team may structure the new extension to provide Warner with more financial security and reduce this year’s salary cap hit of $29.2 million.
An agreement is expected to be finalized soon, keeping Warner in San Francisco for years to come. As the 49ers aim for a successful season, retaining their star linebacker is seen as a crucial move.
