Macklin Celebrini San Jose Sharks Injury

San Jose Sharks rookie sensation Macklin Celebrini, the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft, has been placed on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury. Celebrini made a remarkable NHL debut on Thursday, scoring a goal and recording an assist in the Sharks’ 5-4 overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues. However, he did not play the last 3:42 of the game and returned only for overtime, raising concerns about his health.

Celebrini missed the team’s practice on Friday as he was being evaluated for the injury. Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky confirmed that Celebrini is dealing with a lower-body issue but did not provide details on whether it is related to the minor lower-body injury he experienced during training camp and the preseason.

Despite his impressive debut, Celebrini’s injury has prompted the Sharks to take precautionary measures. The team has recalled defenseman Jack Thompson from the San Jose Barracuda to bolster their roster in Celebrini’s absence.

Celebrini’s talent and performance have been noteworthy, as he became the sixth-youngest player to score in his NHL debut and the youngest player to win the Hobey Baker Award at 17. His health and management will be crucial as the season progresses, with many advocating for a balanced approach to manage his playing time and reduce the risk of further injuries.
