Marcelo Saracchi Boca Juniors Goal Celebration

SANTA FE, ArgentinaMarcelo Saracchi scored a spectacular goal in the opening minutes to lead Boca Juniors to a 1-0 victory over Unión in the second round of the Torneo Apertura 2025 on Wednesday at the Estadio 15 de Abril.

The Uruguayan left-back struck a powerful left-footed shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and into the net, leaving Unión goalkeeper Thiago Cardozo with no chance. The goal came just minutes into the match, setting the tone for Boca’s dominant performance.

“It was a fantastic start for us,” said Boca coach Fernando Gago. “Marcelo took his chance brilliantly, and the team showed great character to hold on to the lead.”

Saracchi, who joined Boca earlier this year, nearly doubled his tally with two more attempts. His first effort from outside the box was deflected for a corner, while his second shot narrowly missed the post. The 26-year-old’s performance earned praise from fans and pundits alike.

Boca, missing key players including Edinson Cavani, Marcos Rojo, and Luis Advíncula due to injuries and rotation, relied on a mix of youth and experience. Miguel Merentiel, wearing the captain’s armband, led the line with determination, though he was unable to add to his tally.

Unión, coming off a 3-1 loss to Estudiantes in their opening match, struggled to create clear chances. Despite the efforts of Franco Fragapane and Jerónimo Dómina, the home side failed to break down Boca’s defense, marshaled by Rodrigo Battaglia and Ayrton Costa.

The match was broadcast live on ESPN Premium, with fans also following the action through Olé’s minute-by-minute updates. Boca’s next challenge will be against Huracán on Sunday, while Unión looks to bounce back against Rosario Central.

With this victory, Boca moves up the table in the Zona A standings, while Unión remains winless after two matches. The Torneo Apertura continues to deliver thrilling encounters as teams vie for early-season momentum.
